2 Hour Challenge: Deadbolt Vampires

Image
Welcome back! Thanks for reading the previous posts about my levels, and if this is the first I hope you enjoy. Now getting to it Im going to skip a small amount of the preamble about deadbolt as this isnt the first post about this game (That would be the zombies level, I would suggest reading that over here because its got a good bit of coverage on game paly mechanics in game).  This time I did go for a larger level, at least larger than the previous level, which came with its own ups and downs and in heighnsight I think it was more downs than ups. At least with my knowlege at the moment. I had the idea of a similar themeing as the first one with a club setting but one with more pedigree, its in control of two more prominent vampires that your tasked with eliminating however you see fit. Lets go floor by floor, you start to the left, presented with an entrance that is gaurded by a pretty bad bouncer and a number of people waiting to get in. The main club floor has limited t...

2 Hour Challenge: Deadbolt Zombies

Ok second level, keeping it simple and doing another smaller indie game called Deadbolt. Combination of a puzzle and shooter, sorta adjacent to hotline Miami if you know of that one but it's a side on camera and has cover mechanics. Also a bit briefer based on my memories of Hotline Miami but that's beside the point. Initially for this I wanted to do a much larger level, something with two buildings next to them and have the surprisingly large variety of monsters in the game be represented, after about an hour or so the editor crashed and lost all my progress. So I took that as a sign to go and make a smaller scale and scope level instead. The story/idea with this is that it was a continuation of Roland, being a zombie I assumed that they could come back to life, but with far less assets after his death. There are a few zombies of each type available, the loyalest of his crew, and this old beat up apartment building he had claimed of. Quick retro-fit of the upper floor to make ...

2 Hour Challenge: Gunpoint

Image
Hi there, this is the first post for this little blog I have going on. Hope you enjoy the content I put here, want to make this a pretty frequent thing that I add to! So getting right into it, I've been wanting to get more into level design again, so to acclimate to the waters in a way I decided to do something small. As the title say, this was a 2 hour challenge where I went into the level editor of the game gunpoint and made a little section for it. In the end it was a bit more than two hours but the challenge of being in the time limit wasn't the true focus, more a means to make sure I don't over think and move on when the project is properly done. Here how the level ended up looking, Ill show the bottom off in a short spell. With the time limit I was trying to hold to, I didn't have much or any real time to plan ahead of time for the level development, I really had to just start and go for it. I found it easiest to start at the end, gunpoint is basically a puzzle...
